Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi - The Four Seasons

Lisa Jacobs & The String Soloists perform a contemporary masterpiece

In the closing concert of the Grachtenfestival, Max Richter’s Four Seasons Recomposed takes centre stage: a contemporary reworking of Antonio Vivaldi’s famous The Four Seasons. Richter preserves recognisable motifs, but adds repetitive patterns, new harmonies, and sharp contrasts. The result is an energetic, cinematic work in which Baroque music and minimal music come together. For this performance, experienced musicians play alongside young talents, including Davina van Wely prize winner Marcel Sutedja and students of the Royal Conservatoire The Hague. STRAAT, the Amsterdam museum for street art and graffiti, serves as the backdrop for this colourful closing concert.

Violinist Lisa Jacobs leads the concert together with her ensemble The String Soloists. Jacobs has previously appeared as a soloist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and has worked with conductors such as Riccardo Chailly and Neeme Järvi. The String Soloists performs without a conductor and is known for its direct, chamber-music style of playing. The ensemble has appeared in major venues in the Netherlands and abroad and has made several internationally acclaimed recordings.
