Puruñeka Duo
Dazzling percussionists effortlessly fill the RAI
At the RAI, Puruñeka Duo presents a percussion programme in which rhythm, movement, and repetition take centre stage. Featuring works by, among others, Philip Glass, Minoru Miki, and Anders Koppel, the concert offers a varied programme for marimba and vibraphone. The spatial setting of the venue enhances the physical dimension of this music: from the meditative patterns in Glass’s Piano Études to the direct energy of Toccata and Table Talk.
Puruñeka Duo consists of Spanish percussionist Tirso Ortiz Garrigós and Icelandic percussionist Matiss Leo Meckl. The duo was formed at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague and focuses on new forms of percussion performance, often in collaboration with dancers, choreographers, and artists from other disciplines. In 2026, they won the Grachtenfestival Conservatory Competition and now, of course, they are performing at the festival itself.
