Jazz Gems: Nina Rompa
Unique timbres, instrumental textures, and Dutch-language jazz, that is exactly what you can expect during the premiere of Nina’s new album Hoog on Friday, August 14, at the Zuiderkerk.
Rompa challenges the listener with her instrumentation, encouraging a new way of perceiving composition, sound, and the role of each instrument. In this concert, the warm sound of the viola, in dialogue with jazz guitar, clarinet, and double bass, forms the perfect sonic foundation for Nina’s distinctive voice.
Nina Rompa is a versatile vocalist from Amsterdam. After years of classical violin training, she studied jazz singing at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Her music is described as colourful, dreamy, and as a bridge between classical music and jazz.
