Levantine Hues
Dag van het Festival: Syrian sounds by brand new quintet
The Almaghoot Quintet is a boundary-pushing ensemble where stories and cultures merge. Founded by Syrian clarinetist and composer Ghaeth Almaghoot, the quintet represents a sincere musical dialogue between East and West.
Their debut album, Levantine Hues, is an intimate musical portrait inspired by personal memories and interviews. Almaghoot composes microtonal Arabic music for bass clarinet, creating a unique and innovative sound. With violin, guitar, double bass, percussion, clarinet, and duduk, the quintet weaves Arabic melodies and jazz harmonies into a layered and soulful soundscape.
