HarmonEast Ensemble
Ottoman and Baroque music in a refined dialogue
In the program Echoes of the Court, the HarmonEast Ensemble brings together the refined sounds of Ottoman court music and the elegance of European Baroque. With a unique instrumentation of ney, piano, cello, viola, and percussion, the ensemble demonstrates how music has moved between cultures over the centuries.
Works by composers such as Henry Purcell, Jean-Baptiste Lully, Dede Efendi, Callisto Guatelli, and Şerif Muhittin Targan reveal surprising connections between European and Ottoman court traditions. The warm, meditative sound of the ney and the expressive possibilities of the piano form a particularly striking combination.
The HarmonEast Ensemble combines the elegance of Western classical music with the rich traditions of Eastern music. The group, formed by internationally active musicians, consists of piano, ney, cello, viola, and percussion. Each musician brings their own cultural background, resulting in a sound that is both unique and vibrant.
