Dana Zemtsov
Amsterdam Lelylaan has captured our hearts
With Bach’s monumental Chaconne as its point of departure, this recital sees Dana Zemtsov explore the full expressive range of music for solo viola. From the grandeur of Bach to the restless energy of Fazıl Say, the folkloric sound world of Dobrinka Tabakova, and Paganini’s astonishing feats of virtuosity. The programme also includes Tarrega’s beloved Recuerdos de la Alhambra.
Dana Zemtsov is widely regarded as one of the leading violists of her generation. Gramophone Magazine praised her playing as “so perfectly tuned” that it can at times sound like a chamber orchestra. She has performed in venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Carnegie Hall and has collaborated with artists including Janine Jansen, Martin Fröst, and Giovanni Sollima. Zemtsov is a recipient of the Kersjes Award and represented the Netherlands at Eurovision Young Musicians.
