Alexander Warenberg & Dagmar Korbar

Viola and cello take center stage in this program full of contrasts. The concert opens with Beethoven’s playful duet mit zwei obligaten Augengläsern (“with two obligatory eyeglasses”), followed by Rebecca Clarke’s intimate and whimsical Two Pieces. Jean-Baptiste Barrière’s sonata showcases the virtuosity of the eighteenth century, while Paul Wiancko’s American Haiku evokes a contemporary, cinematic atmosphere. Piazzolla’s Oblivion brings the concert to a close with its blend of melancholy and tango influences.

Violist Dagmar Korbar and cellist Alexander Warenberg are among the most distinguished string players of their generation. Korbar served as principal violist of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and won several major awards, including the National Viola Competition and the Papandopulo Competition. Warenberg has received prizes at international competitions, including the ARD International Music Competition, and has performed alongside musicians such as Janine Jansen and András Schiff. Together, they bring chamber music-making of the highest calibre.
